Responding to the NHS Information Strategy, published today, Rob Darracott, Chief Executive of Pharmacy Voice said:

“Pharmacy Voice recently committed to develop an IT strategy for community pharmacy, which will triangulate professional, commercial and NHS needs.  The publication of the Government’s NHS IT strategy is timely from that point of view, giving important context for PV’s work.

“The Department of Health’s strategy rightly recognises that it is not for Government to set out detailed mechanisms for delivering IT systems. Pharmacy Voice supports this approach, because we believe our sector should as far as possible define for itself what is needed.

”It is helpful that the Government recognises that in order to deliver integrated care, pharmacists should, with appropriate consent, have access to patient records.”

The DH strategy, The power of information: putting us all in control of the health and care information we need, sets a 10 year framework for transforming information across health and social care services.
